How to Use

Dosage

Adults usually start with 100 mg, then 50 mg every 12 hours. For children 8-12 years, it's 1.2 mg per kg every 12 hours, up to 50 mg. Adolescents 12-18 years get 50 mg every 12 hours.

Method

This medicine is given into a vein (intravenously) over 30 to 60 minutes.

Important

For adults, up to 150 mg on the first day, then 100 mg daily. For children and adolescents, up to 100 mg daily.

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
RARE
  • Abscesses or other infections
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Pain, redness, or swelling at the injection site
  • Stomach pain, upset stomach, or loss of appetite
  • Rash, itching, or yellow skin (jaundice)
  • Low blood sugar or problems with blood clotting
  • Pneumonia (lung infection)
  • Severe body infection (blood poisoning)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to tigecycline or similar antibiotics (tetracyclines).
  • Tell your doctor right away if you have severe or bloody diarrhea, stomach pain, or fever during or after treatment.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience strong stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting, as these can be signs of pancreas inflammation.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver problems or a blocked bile duct.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a bleeding disorder or are taking blood-thinning medicines, as this medicine can affect blood clotting.

  • This medicine should not be given to children under 8 years old because it can cause permanent tooth damage. If you are pregnant, planning to be, or breastfeeding, talk to your doctor, as it can harm the unborn baby and it's unknown if it passes into breast milk.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness, so be careful when driving or using machines.
