How to Use

Dosage

Each dose is 0.5 ml, given as part of a scheduled vaccination program.

Method

The vaccine is usually given as an injection into a muscle in your upper arm. It should not be injected into a blood vessel. In special cases, for example if you have a bleeding disorder, it can be given under the skin.

Important

There is no daily maximum dose as this is a vaccine administered according to a specific schedule, not a daily medication.

  • Nerve problems, such as facial paralysis, nerve inflammation, tingling, numbness, nerve pain, or optic nerve inflammation
  • Brain or spinal cord inflammation, such as meningitis, encephalitis, myelitis, seizures, or a stiff neck
  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • Vision problems, such as blurred vision, sensitivity to light, or eye pain
  • Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath
  • Skin rashes, such as hives, eczema, or increased sweating
  • Body aches, such as back pain, joint swelling, stiff neck, muscle stiffness, or arm/leg pain
  • Flu-like symptoms, such as chills, weakness, swelling, or unsteady walking
  • A lump or inflammation at the injection site

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this vaccine if you are allergic to any of its ingredients, including formaldehyde, protamine sulfate, neomycin, or gentamicin.
  • Inform your doctor if you have had a severe allergic reaction to eggs or chicken in the past.
  • Tell your doctor if you have an acute illness or fever; your vaccination might be postponed until you feel better.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you have a bleeding disorder, an autoimmune disease, a weakened immune system, are taking cancer medicines or corticosteroids, or have any brain or neurological conditions, including seizures.
