Ticagrelor Viatris

Ticagrelor Viatris contains ticagrelor, which stops platelets from clumping together and reduces the risk of another heart attack, stroke, or death from heart-related diseases, and it is used with aspirin in adults who have had a heart attack over a year ago.

How to Use

Dosage

One 60 mg tablet twice a day.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with water. You can take them with or without food. If you have trouble swallowing, you can crush the tablet into a fine powder, mix it with half a glass of water, and drink it immediately. Rinse the glass with water and drink again to ensure you get all the medicine. Take this medicine at approximately the same time each day, for example, one tablet in the morning and one in the evening.

Important

A maximum of two 60 mg tablets per day (total 120 mg).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High uric acid levels in blood (seen in blood tests)
  • Bleeding caused by blood disorders (e.g., minor bleeding like bruises or nosebleeds)
  • Shortness of breath (very common, usually mild, sudden and unexpected need for air)
  • Fainting (temporary loss of consciousness due to sudden decrease in blood flow to the brain)
  • Bruises
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Diarrhea or indigestion
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Severe joint pain and swelling (signs of gout)
  • Dizziness, weakness, or blurred vision (signs of low blood pressure)
  • Nosebleed
  • More bleeding than usual after surgery or from cuts and wounds (e.g., when shaving)
  • Bleeding from the lining of the stomach (ulcer)
  • Bleeding gums
RARE
  • Signs of severe bleeding: severe or uncontrolled bleeding, unexpected or long-lasting bleeding, pink, red or brown urine, vomiting red blood or coffee-ground like vomit, red or black (tar-like) stools, coughing or vomiting blood clots.
  • Bleeding in the brain (intracranial hemorrhage), which can cause stroke signs like sudden numbness or weakness in an arm, leg, or face (especially on one side), sudden confusion, difficulty speaking or understanding, sudden problems with walking, balance, or coordination, sudden dizziness or severe headache without a known cause.
  • Allergic reaction (rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue)
  • Confusion
  • Vision problems due to blood in the eye
  • Vaginal bleeding that is heavier or occurs at a different time than your usual period
  • Bleeding into joints and muscles, causing painful swelling
  • Blood in the ear
  • Internal bleeding that may cause dizziness or weakness
  • Signs of a blood clotting problem called Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP), such as fever and bluish-red spots (purpura) on the skin or in the mouth, with or without yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), unexplained extreme tiredness, or confusion.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Ticagrelor Viatris if you are allergic to ticagrelor or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you currently have bleeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had a stroke caused by bleeding in the brain.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking certain other medicines like ketoconazole (for fungal infections), clarithromycin (for bacterial infections), nefazodone (an antidepressant), ritonavir or atazanavir (for HIV/AIDS).

  • Talk to your doctor if you have an increased risk of bleeding due to a recent serious injury, recent surgery (including dental), a blood clotting disorder, or recent stomach/intestinal bleeding.
  • Tell your doctor if you are going to have surgery, as they may want you to stop taking this medicine 5 days before due to increased bleeding risk.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have an unusually slow heart rate (usually under 60 beats per minute) and do not have a pacemaker.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have asthma, other lung diseases, or breathing difficulties, including unusual breathing patterns.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have or have had liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if blood tests have shown high levels of uric acid.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking both Ticagrelor Viatris and heparin, as this can affect certain diagnostic blood tests.
