How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 60 mg tablet taken twice a day.

Method

Take the tablets at approximately the same time each day, for example, one in the morning and one in the evening, with or without food. If you have difficulty swallowing, crush the tablet into a fine powder, mix it with half a glass of water, and drink immediately. Rinse the glass with another half glass of water and drink to ensure all medicine is taken.

Important

The usual maximum daily dose is 120 mg (two 60 mg tablets).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • High levels of uric acid in the blood (seen in blood tests)
  • Bleeding caused by blood disorders
  • Shortness of breath (mild and temporary)
  • Bruises
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or feeling like the room is spinning (vertigo)
  • Diarrhea or indigestion
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Constipation
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Severe pain and swelling in joints (signs of gout)
  • Dizziness or faintness or blurred vision (signs of low blood pressure)
  • Nosebleeds
  • Heavier than normal bleeding after surgery or from small cuts (e.g., shaving)
  • Bleeding from the stomach lining (ulcer)
  • Bleeding gums
RARE
  • Allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue)
  • Confusion
  • Vision problems due to blood in the eye
  • Heavier vaginal bleeding or bleeding at times other than your usual period
  • Bleeding into joints and muscles, causing painful swelling
  • Blood in the ear
  • Internal bleeding, which may cause dizziness or weakness
  • Bleeding in the brain or inside the head, which can cause signs of a stroke, such as sudden numbness or weakness in an arm, leg, or face (especially on one side), sudden confusion, trouble speaking, problems with balance, sudden dizziness, or a severe headache for no clear reason.
  • Severe or uncontrolled bleeding; unexpected or long-lasting bleeding; pink, red, or brown urine; vomiting blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds; red or black (tar-like) stools; coughing or vomiting blood clots.
  • Fainting (temporary loss of consciousness due to sudden reduction of blood flow to the brain)
  • Signs of a blood clotting problem called thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), such as fever, bluish-red spots on your skin or in your mouth (purpura), yellow skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme tiredness for no reason, or confusion.
  • Abnormally slow heart rate (usually under 60 beats per minute)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to ticagrelor or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have active bleeding anywhere in your body.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had a stroke caused by bleeding in the brain.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are taking certain medicines for fungal infections, bacterial infections, depression, or HIV (e.g., ketoconazole, clarithromycin, nefazodone, ritonavir, or atazanavir).

  • Talk to your doctor if you have an increased risk of bleeding, for example, if you have recently had a severe injury, surgery (including dental surgery), have a condition affecting blood clotting, or have had bleeding from your stomach or gut.
  • Talk to your doctor if your heart rate is unusually slow (less than 60 beats per minute) and you do not have a pacemaker.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have asthma or other lung problems or breathing difficulties, or if you experience irregular breathing patterns.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had any liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if your blood test shows high levels of uric acid in your blood.
