How to Use

Dosage

The starting dose is two 90 mg tablets taken at once. After that, the usual dose is one 90 mg tablet taken twice a day.

Method

Take the tablets with or without food, around the same time each day (for example, one in the morning and one in the evening). If you have trouble swallowing, you can crush the tablet and mix it with a small amount of water to drink immediately.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 180 mg (two 90 mg tablets).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Shortness of breath (usually mild, often occurs at rest)
  • High level of uric acid in the blood (seen in a blood test)
  • Bleeding, such as bruises or nosebleeds
  • Bruises
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or feeling that the room is spinning
  • Diarrhea or indigestion
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Constipation
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Joint pain and swelling (gout)
  • Dizziness, weakness, or blurred vision (signs of low blood pressure)
  • Nosebleeds
  • More bleeding than usual after surgery or injury
  • Bleeding from the lining of the stomach (stomach ulcer)
  • Bleeding gums
  • Fainting (temporary loss of consciousness due to reduced blood flow to the brain)
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain (can cause stroke symptoms like numbness or speech difficulties)
  • Allergic reaction (rash, itching, swelling of face, lips, or tongue)
  • Confusion
  • Vision problems (due to bleeding in the eye)
  • Heavier or irregular vaginal bleeding
  • Bleeding into joints or muscles (can cause swelling and pain)
  • Blood in the ear
  • Internal bleeding (can cause dizziness or weakness)
  • Blood clotting problems, such as fever and bluish-purple spots on the skin or in the mouth (TTP)
  • Abnormally slow heart rate (usually under 60 beats per minute)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to ticagrelor or any other ingredients in the medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have active bleeding or have had a stroke caused by bleeding in the brain.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have severe liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you are going to have surgery (including dental procedures), as your doctor may ask you to stop taking this medicine 5 days before the operation.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, unless your doctor says it is safe.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C
