How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 60 mg tablet twice daily, or one 90 mg tablet twice daily for up to 12 months after an initial loading dose of two 90 mg tablets taken at once.

Method

Take tablets at approximately the same time each day, with or without food. If you have difficulty swallowing, crush the tablet into a fine powder, mix with half a glass of water, stir and drink immediately.

Important

The maximum daily dose for ongoing treatment is 180 mg (two 90 mg tablets).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased blood uric acid level (seen in blood tests)
  • Bleeding caused by blood disorder
  • Shortness of breath (usually mild, often occurs at rest and may disappear early in treatment)
  • Bruises
  • Headache
  • Dizziness or vertigo (feeling that the room is spinning)
  • Diarrhea or indigestion
  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Rash
  • Itching
  • Severe joint pain and swelling (signs of gout)
  • Dizziness, weakness, or blurred vision (signs of low blood pressure)
  • Nosebleed
  • Heavier than normal bleeding after surgery, cuts, or wounds
  • Bleeding from inside the stomach (ulcer)
  • Gum bleeding
  • Fainting (temporary loss of consciousness due to sudden reduction of blood flow to the brain)
RARE
  • Bleeding in the brain or inside the skull (signs of stroke such as sudden numbness or weakness in arm, leg, or face, confusion, difficulty speaking or understanding, difficulty walking, balancing, or coordinating, sudden dizziness or severe headache without known cause)
  • Severe or uncontrollable bleeding
  • Unexpected or prolonged bleeding
  • Pink, red, or brown urine
  • Vomiting red blood or "coffee ground" vomit
  • Red or black (tar-like) stools
  • Coughing or vomiting blood clots
  • Signs of blood clotting problems (TTP) such as fever, bluish-red spots on skin or in mouth, yellowing of skin or eyes, unexplained severe fatigue, or confusion
  • Allergic reaction (rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips/tongue)
  • Confusion
  • Vision problems due to blood in the eye
  • Vaginal bleeding that is heavier or occurs at a different time than your normal period
  • Bleeding into joints and muscles causing painful swelling
  • Blood in the ear
  • Internal bleeding, which may cause dizziness or weakness

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to ticagrelor or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have ongoing bleeding or have had a stroke caused by bleeding.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you are taking ketoconazole, clarithromycin, nefazodone, ritonavir, or atazanavir.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have an increased risk of bleeding, for example, due to a recent injury, surgery, or bleeding in your stomach or intestines.

  • Inform your doctor if you have upcoming surgery; your doctor may ask you to stop taking this medicine 5 days before the procedure.
  • Talk to your doctor if your heart rate is unusually slow (under 60 beats per minute) and you do not have a pacemaker.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have asthma, lung disease, or other breathing difficulties, or if you experience irregular breathing.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have had or currently have liver problems.
  • Talk to your doctor if blood tests have shown high uric acid levels.
  • Not recommended for pregnant women or those planning pregnancy; use contraception. Discuss with your doctor if breastfeeding.
  • Be careful when driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy or confused.
