How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will calculate your dose based on your body surface area or weight and your condition.

Method

The medicine is given as a drip into a vein (infusion) after dilution, and the infusion takes 2–4 hours.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily amount, and treatment can last up to five days.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased risk of infection
  • Body-wide inflammation (sepsis)
  • Decrease in white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells (anemia)
  • Transplanted cells attacking your body (graft-versus-host disease)
  • Dizziness, headache, blurred vision
  • Uncontrolled body shaking (seizures)
  • Tingling, prickling, or numbness (paresthesia)
  • Partial loss of movement ability
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Inflammation of mouth lining (mucositis)
  • Irritated stomach, esophagus, intestine
  • Colon inflammation
  • Loss of appetite
  • High blood sugar
  • Rash, itching, peeling skin
  • Skin color changes (not jaundice)
  • Skin redness (erythema)
  • Hair loss
  • Back and abdominal pain, general pain

  • Abnormal bulging of an artery in the brain (intracranial aneurysm)

  • Lack of oxygen
  • Fluid accumulation in the lungs (pulmonary edema)
  • Lung bleeding

  • Blood in urine (hematuria) and moderate kidney impairment

  • Discomfort during urination and decreased urine output (dysuria and oliguria)
  • Increased nitrogen compounds in the blood (increased BUN)

  • Severe skin damage (life-threatening)
  • Damage to part of the brain (life-threatening leukoencephalopathy)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to thiotepa.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant.
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding.
  • Avoid yellow fever vaccine or live virus/bacteria vaccines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems.
