How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will calculate your dose based on your body surface area or weight and your disease.

Method

Thiotepa Fresenius Kabi is given as an intravenous infusion (drip into a vein) after the medicine has been diluted. Each infusion lasts 2-4 hours.

Important

Treatment can last up to five days, with infusions given every 12 or 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Increased risk of infections
  • Sepsis (severe body infection)
  • Decreased number of white blood cells, platelets, and red blood cells (anemia)
  • Graft-versus-host disease (transplanted cells attacking your body)
  • Dizziness, headache, blurred vision
  • Uncontrolled body trembling (convulsions)
  • Tingling, pricking, or numbness (paresthesia)
  • Partial loss of movement
  • Cardiac arrest
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Inflammation of mouth lining (mucositis)
  • Irritated stomach, esophagus, or bowel
  • Colon inflammation
  • Loss of appetite
  • High blood sugar levels
  • Rash, itching, flaking skin
  • Skin discoloration (not jaundice)

  • Abnormal heart condition (cardiomyopathy)
  • High blood pressure in lung arteries (pulmonary arterial hypertension)
  • Severe, life-threatening skin damage (e.g., severe lesions, blisters) covering the entire body
  • Life-threatening brain damage (leukoencephalopathy)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to thiotepa.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or think you might be pregnant.
  • Do not use if you are breastfeeding.
  • Do not use if you are receiving a yellow fever vaccine or other live vaccines.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver, kidney, heart, or lung problems, or if you have a history of seizures.

  • This medicine may increase the risk of developing another type of cancer later. Your doctor will discuss this with you.
  • Both men and women must use effective birth control during treatment and for a period after treatment (6 months for women, 3 months for men).
  • Male patients should discuss sperm banking with their doctor before starting treatment, as this medicine may affect fertility.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness, headache, and blurred vision, which may affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these symptoms.
