How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your age, gender, weight, and general health. For high skull pressure, you will receive a dose based on your weight. If you have liver or kidney problems, your doctor will give you a smaller dose.

Method

This medicine is given directly into one of your veins (intravenously).

  • High potassium levels in the blood

  • Loss of appetite
  • General discomfort, weakness

  • Severe allergic reaction with swelling of face, tongue or throat, difficulty swallowing, hives, breathing problems, and low blood pressure (e.g., angioedema or anaphylaxis)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to thiopental, other barbiturates, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe breathing problems, like asthma, or a narrowing of your airways.
  • Inform your doctor if you have a heart or blood vessel disease, or high blood pressure.
  • Let your doctor know if you have problems with your liver or kidneys.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have porphyria, a rare blood disease.

  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, tell your doctor. This medicine should not be used during pregnancy unless absolutely necessary. Breastfeeding should be stopped for at least 12 hours after use.
  • This medicine can make you dizzy, confused, and drowsy. Do not drive or operate machinery for 24-36 hours after receiving it.
