Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Heart rhythm problems or heart problems
  • Low blood pressure
  • Drowsiness or delayed awakening from anesthesia
  • Breathing difficulties, fast breathing, difficulty swallowing, coughing, snoring, or sneezing
  • Chills
  • Changes in blood potassium levels (high or low)
  • Loss of appetite
  • General unwell feeling, weakness, or tiredness
  • Headache or dizziness
  • Skin reactions like rash, itching, or hives (mild)
  • Vomiting
  • Confusion, memory loss, or tremors after surgery
RARE
  • Severe allergic reaction with symptoms like swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, severe breathing problems, very low blood pressure, or widespread hives.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to thiopental, barbiturates, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe breathing problems, like a blocked airway or a severe asthma attack.
  • Inform your doctor if you have muscular dystrophy, severe shock, or a rare blood disease called porphyria.
  • Your doctor may need to adjust your dose if you have high pressure in your head, heart or blood pressure problems, severe bleeding, liver or kidney issues, or other serious health conditions.
  • Do not drive or operate machinery for 24-36 hours after receiving this medicine, as it can make you dizzy and confused.
