How to Use

Dosage

The nuclear medicine doctor will decide the dose, which is usually 50–110 MBq for adults.

Method

The medicine is given as an injection into a vein.

Important

Usually, one injection is enough for the examination, but sometimes a second injection might be needed as determined by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

RARE
  • Allergic reactions, such as throat spasms, pharyngitis, swelling in various places (face, larynx, tongue), difficulty breathing, skin redness, rash, itching, hives, skin pain, hypersensitivity, facial pain, eye inflammation (itching, watering, redness), tear flow disorders, facial flushing, increased sweating, cough.
RARE
  • Fainting or symptoms such as dizziness, slow heartbeat, low blood pressure, tremor, headache, paleness.
RARE
  • Injection site reactions, such as local swelling, pain, redness.
RARE
  • Local tissue damage (necrosis) if the injection was not given into a vein.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to thallium chloride or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are breastfeeding, or stop breastfeeding for 2 days after the examination and discard breast milk.
  • This medicine should not be given to children under 18 years of age.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems.

  • Drink plenty of water and fast for at least 4 hours before the examination to help the radioactive substance leave your body faster.
  • Discuss all medicines you are taking with your doctor, as they may affect the results of the examination.
  • Avoid caffeinated drinks for at least 12 hours before the examination, if advised by your doctor.
