How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose is half a tablet (12.5 mg) one to three times a day. Your doctor may slowly increase the dose every 3 to 4 days until it works best for you or if side effects become a problem.

Method

Swallow the tablet(s) with water or another non-alcoholic drink.

Important

Do not take more than 8 tablets (200 mg) in one day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling sleepy or drowsy (especially with higher doses)
  • Feeling sad or depressed
  • Movements similar to Parkinson's disease, such as tremors or stiffness, especially in your hands, arms, legs, and head (with higher doses)
  • Confusion
  • Feeling worried or anxious
  • Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
  • Low blood pressure
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Feeling sick to your stomach (nausea)
  • Throwing up (vomiting)
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
RARE
  • Changes in mood, like confusion or seeing/hearing things that aren't there (hallucinations)
  • Stiff muscles
  • Fever
  • A serious condition called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome (symptoms include changes in mood like confusion or hallucinations, muscle stiffness, and fever)
  • Muscle damage

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to tetrabenazine or any of its ingredients.
  • Do not take Tetmodis if you are currently taking reserpine or certain antidepressants called MAO inhibitors.
  • Do not take Tetmodis if you have severe liver problems, Parkinson's-like symptoms, depression, or if you are thinking about harming yourself.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of heart problems or irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias).
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience confusion, hallucinations, muscle stiffness, or fever, as these could be signs of a serious condition called Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome.
