Teriflunomide ratiopharm is a medicine used to treat relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (MS) in adults and children aged 10 and above, helping to protect the nervous system from immune system attacks.

How to Use

Dosage

Adults: one 14 mg tablet once daily. Children (over 10 years): if over 40 kg, one 14 mg tablet once daily; if 40 kg or less, one 7 mg tablet once daily.

Method

Take one tablet orally once daily, swallowed whole with a little water. It can be taken with or without food.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults and children over 40 kg is 14 mg. For children 40 kg or less, the maximum daily dose is 7 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), which can cause stomach pain, nausea, or vomiting. This is common in children and rare in adults.
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Increased liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Hair thinning
  • Common infections like flu, colds, urinary tract infections, bronchitis, sinus infections, sore throat, cold sores, or fungal infections on feet.
  • Herpes virus infections, such as cold sores or shingles, which can cause blisters, burning, itching, numbness, or pain on one side of the body or face, along with fever and weakness.
  • Low red blood cell count (anemia), changes in liver and white blood cell test results.
  • Mild allergic reactions
  • Anxiety
  • Tingling, weakness, numbness, or pain in the lower back, legs, hands, and fingers.
  • Feeling your heart beat fast (palpitations)
  • Increased blood pressure
  • Toothache, upper stomach pain, rash, acne, joint pain, muscle pain, bone pain, more frequent urination, heavy menstrual bleeding, general pain, lack of energy or weakness, weight loss.
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions with symptoms like rash, hives, swelling of lips, tongue, or face, and sudden difficulty breathing.
  • Severe skin reactions like rash, blisters, fever, or mouth sores.
  • Severe infections or sepsis (a life-threatening infection) with symptoms like high fever, shaking, chills, reduced urine flow, or confusion.
  • Lung inflammation with symptoms like shortness of breath or a persistent cough.
  • Severe liver disease with symptoms like yellow skin or eyes, unusually dark urine, unexplained nausea, vomiting, or stomach pain.
  • Low platelet count in blood (mild thrombocytopenia).
  • Nerve problems in arms or legs, with increased skin sensitivity, stinging or throbbing pain along nerves.
  • Nail disorders.
  • Pain after an injury (post-traumatic pain).
  • Psoriasis (a skin condition).
  • Inflammation of the mouth or lips.
  • Abnormal blood fat levels (lipids).
  • Inflammation of the large intestine (colitis).
  • Liver inflammation or damage.
  • High blood pressure in the lungs (pulmonary hypertension).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to teriflunomide or any other ingredient.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have had a severe skin rash, peeling skin, blisters, or mouth sores after taking teriflunomide or leflunomide.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a severe immune system problem, like AIDS.

  • Do not take this medicine if you have a severe bone marrow problem or low levels of red or white blood cells or platelets.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a severe infection.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney problems and need dialysis.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have very low protein levels in your blood.
  • This medicine can make you dizzy, which may affect your concentration and reaction time. If you feel dizzy, do not drive or use machines.
  • This medicine contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
  • This medicine contains Allura Red AC (E129), which may cause allergic reactions.
