How to Use

Dosage

Adults typically take one 14 mg tablet once a day. For children and adolescents (10 years and older), the dose is one 14 mg tablet daily if they weigh over 40 kg, or one 7 mg tablet daily if they weigh 40 kg or less.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take it with or without food, at any time of day.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is one 14 mg tablet.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting
  • Hair thinning or loss
  • Higher liver enzyme levels (seen in blood tests)
  • Flu-like symptoms, common infections (like colds, urinary tract infections)
  • Tingling, numbness, weakness, or pain in hands and feet
  • High blood pressure
  • Skin rash, acne
  • Joint, muscle, or tendon pain
  • Weight loss
  • Fatigue or lack of energy
  • Anxiety
  • Palpitations (feeling your heart beat fast)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, swelling of lips/tongue/face, trouble breathing)
  • Severe skin reactions (rash, blisters, fever, mouth sores)
  • Severe infections or sepsis (life-threatening infection with high fever, chills, confusion, decreased urine)
  • Lung inflammation (shortness of breath, persistent cough)
  • Severe liver disease (yellow skin/eyes, dark urine, unexplained nausea/vomiting, stomach pain)
  • Pancreatitis (stomach pain, nausea, vomiting - more common in children/adolescents)
  • Low platelet count
  • Nerve problems in arms or legs (peripheral neuropathy)
  • Nail problems
  • Psoriasis
  • High blood pressure in the lungs

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to teriflunomide or any other ingredients.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Women who can get pregnant must use reliable birth control.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe liver problems or drink a lot of alcohol. Your doctor will check your liver.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a severe infection. This medicine can make it harder for your body to fight infections.
  • This medicine can cause dizziness. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel dizzy or have trouble concentrating.

  • Do not use if you have previously had a severe rash, blisters, or mouth sores after taking teriflunomide or leflunomide.
