How to Use

Dosage

For insomnia, 10-20 mg daily; for elderly, 10 mg daily, taken before bedtime. For temporary anxiety, 10-30 mg up to three times a day.

Method

Take with water, with or without food, as directed by your doctor. The tablet can be divided if you have difficulty swallowing it whole.

Important

For insomnia, the maximum is 20 mg per day. For temporary anxiety, the maximum is 30 mg, taken up to three times a day (total 90 mg). Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Emotional flattening, confusion
  • Sleepiness, reduced alertness, tiredness, lack of energy
RARE
  • Sleep disturbances, nightmares
  • Headache, dizziness, muscle coordination problems (ataxia)
  • Stomach problems, dry mouth
  • Muscle weakness
  • Skin reactions, hypersensitivity reactions
  • Memory loss, mental disturbances like restlessness, irritability, aggression, delusions, psychosis, and behavioral disorders
  • Withdrawal symptoms (e.g., restlessness, fear, nervousness, insomnia, convulsions)
  • Depression
  • Double vision
  • Changes in sexual desire

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to temazepam or any other ingredients in Tenox.
  • Do not take if you have severe breathing problems or sleep apnea.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you have myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness).
  • Do not drink alcohol while taking Tenox, as it increases the sedative effect.

  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • Tenox can make you sleepy and affect your ability to drive or operate machinery, especially at the start of treatment. Avoid these activities until you know how the medicine affects you.
  • This medicine can cause dependence. The risk increases with higher doses and longer treatment, especially if you have a history of alcohol or drug abuse.
  • Memory loss can occur a few hours after taking Tenox. To reduce this risk, try to get 7-8 hours of uninterrupted sleep after taking it.
  • After a few weeks, Tenox might become less effective. To avoid this, treatment should be short, usually no longer than one month.
  • Tenox should not be used by children or adolescents under 18 years of age.
  • Taking Tenox with strong pain relievers (opioids) can increase sleepiness, breathing problems, and coma. This combination should only be used if other treatments are not possible.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. For short-term use only. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. (updated 12.2.2024)
