How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your body size, tumor type, and whether you've had chemotherapy before. You might take it daily for a period with radiation, then in cycles of 5 days on, 23 days off.

Method

Take the capsules whole with a glass of water on an empty stomach, at least one hour before breakfast. Do not open, crush, or chew the capsules. If a capsule breaks, avoid contact with skin, eyes, or nose, and rinse with water if contact occurs.

Important

Do not take another dose on the same day if you vomit after taking your dose.

  • Concentration problems, changes in mental state or alertness, forgetfulness
  • Dizziness, reduced sense of touch, tingling, tremor, taste changes
  • Partial vision loss, abnormal vision, double vision, sore eyes
  • Deafness, ringing in ears, earache
  • Blood clot in lungs, leg blood clots, high blood pressure
  • Pneumonia, shortness of breath, bronchitis, cough, sinusitis
  • Stomach pain, stomach problems, heartburn, difficulty swallowing
  • Dry skin, itching
  • Muscle damage, muscle weakness, muscle aches and pains
  • Joint pain, back pain
  • Frequent urination, difficulty holding urine
  • Fever, flu-like symptoms, pain, general unwellness, cold or flu
  • Fluid retention, swollen legs
  • Elevated liver enzymes
  • Weight loss, weight gain
  • Radiation injury
RARE
  • Brain infections caused by herpes virus (including fatal cases)
  • Wound infections
  • New or reactivated cytomegalovirus infections
  • Reactivated hepatitis B virus infections
  • Other cancers, including leukemia
  • Decreased blood cell counts (all types of blood cells, red blood cells, white blood cells)
  • Red spots under the skin
  • Diabetes insipidus (with symptoms like excessive urination and thirst), low blood potassium
  • Mood swings, hallucinations
  • Partial paralysis, changes in smell
  • Hearing loss, middle ear infections
  • Palpitations (feeling your heart beat fast), hot flashes
  • Bloated stomach, difficulty controlling bowel movements, hemorrhoids, dry mouth
  • Liver inflammation and damage (including fatal liver failure), bile flow problems, increased bilirubin
  • Blisters on body or in mouth, peeling skin, rash, painful red skin, severe rash with skin swelling (including on hands and soles of feet)
  • Increased sun sensitivity, hives (nettle rash), increased sweating, changes in skin color
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Vaginal bleeding, vaginal irritation, missed or heavy periods, breast pain, sexual inability (impotence)
  • Chills, facial swelling, tongue discoloration, thirst, dental problems
  • Dry eyes

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to temozolomide or dacarbazine (another cancer medicine) or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • This medicine can lower your blood cell counts, making you more likely to get infections or bleed easily. Your doctor will check your blood regularly.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you develop a fever or any signs of infection.
  • Nausea and vomiting are common. Your doctor may prescribe medicine to help. If you vomit after taking a dose, do not take another dose the same day.
  • This medicine is not for pregnant or breastfeeding women. Men should use effective contraception during treatment and for at least 3 months after.

  • This medicine can make you feel tired or sleepy. Do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Keep this medicine out of reach and sight of children. Accidental intake can be deadly. Not for children under 3 years old.
