How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide Orion tablet once a day.

Method

Try to take the tablet at the same time each day. You can take it with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water or another non-alcoholic drink. Keep taking it daily until your doctor tells you otherwise.

Important

If you have liver problems, the daily dose of telmisartan should not be more than 40 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness
  • Increased blood fat levels
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Low magnesium levels in the blood
  • Loss of appetite
RARE
  • Low potassium or sodium levels in the blood
  • Fainting, anxiety, feeling down (depression), trouble sleeping
  • Fast, slow or irregular heartbeat, low blood pressure (especially when standing up quickly)
  • Shortness of breath, cough, or bronchitis
  • Stomach problems like pain, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, dry mouth, or gas
  • Skin reactions like rash, itching, redness, hives, increased sun sensitivity, blisters, peeling skin; also non-melanoma skin cancer
  • Muscle, joint, back, or tendon pain, muscle cramps
  • Blurred vision or eye pain (could be signs of fluid in the eye or glaucoma)
  • Kidney problems (including sudden kidney failure), urinary tract or bladder infections
  • Low red blood cells (anemia), low blood platelets (increases bleeding risk)
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Lupus-like syndrome (a condition where the immune system attacks the body)
  • Progressive lung scarring

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to telmisartan, hydrochlorothiazide, or any other ingredients in this medicine, or to sulfa drugs.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant or during early pregnancy, as it can harm your baby.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems (like bile flow blockage) or severe kidney problems, or if you produce very little urine.
  • Do not take if your doctor has found that you have low potassium or high calcium levels in your blood that haven't been corrected by treatment.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are being treated with a blood pressure-lowering medicine containing aliskiren.

  • If you suddenly have severe breathing problems or difficulty breathing after taking Telmisartan/Hydrochlorothiazide Orion, seek medical help right away.
  • Hydrochlorothiazide may increase the risk of certain skin and lip cancers. Protect your skin from sun and UV rays while taking this medicine. Tell your doctor if you've had skin cancer or notice any new skin changes.
  • Hydrochlorothiazide can cause vision problems or eye pain, which could be signs of fluid build-up or increased pressure in your eye. This can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Effectiveness is reduced in renal impairment. Consider risk of orthostatic hypotension and hyponatraemia and -kalemia. (updated 19.5.2025)
