How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one tablet daily. For high blood pressure, it's often 40 mg, but your doctor may change it to 20 mg or 80 mg. For heart and blood vessel protection, it's typically 80 mg once daily.

Method

Take one tablet at the same time each day with water, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 40 mg per day if you have liver problems.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension) in patients treated to reduce the risk of heart and blood vessel problems.
RARE
  • Urinary tract infections, upper respiratory infections (e.g., sore throat, sinusitis, flu).
  • Lack of red blood cells (anemia), increased certain white blood cells (eosinophilia), low platelet count (thrombocytopenia), decreased hemoglobin (a blood protein).
  • High potassium levels, low blood sugar levels (in diabetic patients).
  • Difficulty sleeping, feeling down (depression), anxiety, drowsiness, fainting, feeling dizzy (vertigo), dizziness when standing up, feeling tired, vision problems.
  • Slow heart rate (bradycardia), fast heart rate (tachycardia).
  • Shortness of breath, cough, progressive scarring of lung tissue (very rare).
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, upset stomach, bloated stomach, vomiting, dry mouth, abnormal liver function (more common in Japanese patients), bowel swelling (intestinal angioedema) causing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
  • Itching, increased sweating, skin rash, severe skin rash due to medicine, eczema (skin disease), skin redness, hives (urticaria), severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic reaction), allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, difficulty breathing, wheezing, facial swelling or low blood pressure).
  • Back pain, muscle cramps, muscle pain, joint pain, limb pain, tendon pain.
  • Worsening kidney function, including sudden kidney failure, increased creatinine levels in blood, increased uric acid levels.
  • Chest pain, flu-like symptoms, increased liver enzymes or creatinine phosphokinase in blood.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to telmisartan or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant (it is also best to avoid it in early pregnancy).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver problems or a blockage in your bile ducts.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure-lowering medicine called aliskiren.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you get a severe infection with whole-body inflammation (sepsis) or sudden swelling of the skin and mucous membranes (angioedema), which can be life-threatening.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
