How to Use

Dosage

Take one tablet once a day. For high blood pressure, it's usually 40 mg, but your doctor might change it to 20 mg or 80 mg. For heart and blood vessel problems, it's usually 80 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. You can take it with or without food. Try to take it at the same time every day.

Important

If you have liver problems, do not take more than 40 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure, especially if you are taking this medicine to prevent heart problems or strokes.
RARE
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Upper respiratory infections (like sore throat, sinus problems, or common cold)
  • Not enough red blood cells (anemia)
  • High levels of potassium in your blood
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Feeling sad or down (depression)
  • Fainting
  • Feeling dizzy or a spinning sensation (vertigo)
  • Slow heart rate
  • Dizziness when standing up too quickly
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Stomach pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Upset stomach
  • Bloating or swelling of the stomach
  • Vomiting
  • Itching
  • Increased sweating
  • Rash due to the medicine
  • Back pain
  • Muscle cramps
  • Muscle pain
  • Worsening kidney function, including sudden kidney failure
  • Chest pain
  • Feeling weak
  • Increased levels of creatinine in your blood
  • Sepsis (a severe infection, also called 'blood poisoning', that can be life-threatening)
  • Increased number of certain white blood cells called eosinophils
  • Low number of platelets in your blood
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Allergic reactions (like rash, itching, trouble breathing, wheezing, swelling of the face, or low blood pressure)
  • Low blood sugar levels (in people with diabetes)
  • Feeling anxious
  • Feeling sleepy
  • Problems with vision
  • Fast heart rate
  • Dry mouth
  • Upset stomach
  • Abnormal liver function (more often seen in Japanese patients)
  • Sudden swelling of the skin and mucous membranes, which can be life-threatening
  • Skin rash (eczema)
  • Redness of the skin
  • Hives (itchy red welts on the skin)
  • Severe rash caused by the medicine
  • Joint pain
  • Pain in arms or legs
  • Tendon pain
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Lower levels of hemoglobin (a protein in red blood cells)
  • High levels of uric acid in your blood
  • Increased levels of liver enzymes or creatine phosphokinase in your blood
  • Lung tissue scarring (interstitial lung disease)
  • Swelling in the intestines with symptoms like stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to telmisartan or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are more than 3 months pregnant, or if you are trying to get pregnant (you should avoid it in early pregnancy too).
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe liver problems, like a blocked bile duct.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are also taking another blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney problems, narrow kidney arteries, heart problems, high levels of a hormone called aldosterone, low blood pressure, high potassium in your blood, or diabetes.

  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other blood pressure medicines such as ACE inhibitors (like enalapril) or aliskiren. Your doctor may need to adjust your dose or monitor you.
  • If you feel dizzy or tired, do not drive or use machines.
  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • It is not recommended to use this medicine while breastfeeding.
  • If you get stomach pain, feel sick (nausea), vomit, or have diarrhea after taking Telmisartan Stada, tell your doctor.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
