How to Use

Dosage

One Telmisartan Stada tablet once daily, usually 40 mg, but can be 20 mg or 80 mg as directed by your doctor.

Method

Take the tablet by mouth with water or another non-alcoholic liquid, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

Maximum 80 mg per day; if you have liver problems, maximum 40 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension) in patients treated to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events
RARE
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Upper respiratory tract infections (e.g., sore throat, sinus inflammation, common cold)
  • Lack of red blood cells (anemia)
  • High potassium levels in the blood
  • Difficulty falling asleep
  • Feeling down (depression)
  • Fainting (syncope)
  • Feeling dizzy (vertigo)
  • Slow heart rate (bradycardia)
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension) in patients treated for high blood pressure
  • Dizziness when standing up (orthostatic hypotension)
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Stomach upset
  • Bloating
  • Vomiting
  • Itching
  • Increased sweating
  • Drug rash
  • Back pain
  • Muscle cramps
  • Muscle pain (myalgia)
  • Impaired kidney function including acute kidney failure
  • Chest pain
  • Feeling of weakness
  • Increased creatinine levels in the blood
  • Sepsis (severe infection often called "blood poisoning")
  • Increased number of certain white blood cells (eosinophilia)
  • Low number of platelets (thrombocytopenia)

  • Allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, difficulty breathing, wheezing, facial swelling or low blood pressure)
  • Low blood sugar levels (in diabetic patients)
  • Feeling of anxiety
  • Drowsiness
  • Impaired vision
  • Fast heart rate (tachycardia)
  • Dry mouth
  • Stomach upset (abnormal liver function)
  • Rapid swelling of skin and mucous membranes (angioedema), which can be fatal
  • Eczema (skin disease)
  • Skin redness
  • Hives (urticaria)
  • Severe drug rash
  • Joint pain (arthralgia)
  • Limb pain
  • Tendon pain
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Decreased hemoglobin levels (a blood protein)
  • Increased uric acid levels in the blood
  • Increased liver enzyme or creatine phosphokinase levels in the blood
  • Progressive scarring of lung tissue (interstitial lung disease)
  • Intestinal angioedema (swelling in the gut with stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to telmisartan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you are more than 3 months pregnant. It is also best to avoid this medicine in early pregnancy.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver problems, such as bile flow blockage or any other severe liver disease.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are being treated with a blood pressure-lowering medicine containing aliskiren.
  • This medicine is not recommended for children and adolescents under 18 years of age.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A

Suitable for older adults. Monitor renal function and potassium concentrations during the pharmacotherapy. Avoid concurrent use of NSAIDs. (updated 14.4.2025)
