How to Use

Dosage

Usually one 40 mg or 80 mg tablet once a day, as prescribed by your doctor.

Method

Take the tablet at the same time each day, with water, with or without food.

Important

Do not take more than 40 mg per day if you have liver problems. Otherwise, your doctor may prescribe up to 80 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure (hypotension) in patients treated for heart and blood vessel problems.
RARE
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Upper respiratory infections (like sore throat, flu)
  • Anemia (lack of red blood cells)
  • High potassium levels in blood
  • Difficulty falling asleep
  • Depression
  • Fainting
  • Dizziness
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Low blood pressure (in hypertension patients)
  • Dizziness upon standing
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Upset stomach
  • Abdominal bloating
  • Vomiting
  • Itching
  • Increased sweating
  • Drug rash
  • Back pain
  • Muscle cramps
  • Muscle pain
  • Kidney failure (including acute)

  • Increased creatinine levels in blood

  • Angioedema (rapid swelling of skin and mucous membranes, can be fatal)

  • Tendon pain
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Decreased hemoglobin levels
  • Increased uric acid levels
  • Increased liver enzymes or creatine phosphokinase levels
  • Low sodium levels
  • Progressive scarring of lung tissue (interstitial lung disease)
  • Intestinal angioedema: swelling in the intestine with symptoms like abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea has been reported.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to telmisartan or any other ingredients.
  • Avoid use during pregnancy, especially the last 6 months, as it can harm the baby.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems or bile duct blockage.
  • Do not take if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine with aliskiren.
  • Tell your doctor if you are scheduled for surgery or anesthesia.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category A
