How to Use

Dosage

One Telmark tablet once a day, usually 40 mg for high blood pressure or 80 mg for heart event prevention. Your doctor may adjust the dose.

Method

Take the tablet whole with water, with or without food, at the same time each day.

Important

Do not exceed 40 mg per day if you have liver problems. Otherwise, follow your doctor's instructions.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood pressure, especially when treated for heart and blood vessel problems.
RARE
  • Urinary infections
  • Colds or infections in your nose, throat, or sinuses
  • Low red blood cells (anemia)
  • High potassium levels in your blood
  • Trouble sleeping or feeling sad (depressed)
  • Fainting or feeling dizzy (like spinning)
  • Slow heartbeat
  • Dizziness when standing up too quickly
  • Shortness of breath or cough
  • Stomach pain, diarrhea, feeling sick (nausea) or throwing up (vomiting)
  • Itching, increased sweating, or skin rash
  • Back pain, muscle cramps, or muscle pain
  • Kidney problems (including sudden kidney failure)
  • Chest pain or feeling weak
  • Changes in blood test results (e.g., increased creatinine)
  • Severe infection, also called 'blood poisoning' (sepsis), needing urgent medical care
  • Allergic reactions, including sudden swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema), which can be deadly. Seek urgent medical care.
  • Low blood sugar (in people with diabetes)
  • Anxiety or drowsiness
  • Blurred vision
  • Fast heartbeat
  • Dry mouth or changes in taste
  • Abnormal liver test results
  • Skin problems like eczema, redness, hives, or severe drug rash
  • Joint, arm, leg, or tendon pain
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Low hemoglobin levels (a protein in red blood cells)
  • Increased uric acid in blood
  • Increased liver enzymes or creatine phosphokinase in blood
  • Low sodium in blood
  • Progressive scarring of lung tissue (interstitial lung disease)
  • Swelling in the intestines (intestinal angioedema), causing stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to telmisartan or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are more than 3 months pregnant, as it can harm your baby. It's also best to avoid it early in pregnancy.
  • Do not use if you have severe liver problems or bile duct issues.
  • Do not use if you have diabetes or kidney problems and are taking a blood pressure medicine called aliskiren.
  • Seek urgent medical help if you get a severe infection (sepsis, or 'blood poisoning') or sudden swelling of the skin/mucosa (angioedema), as these can be life-threatening.
