How to Use

Dosage

The usual starting dose for adults is one 10 mg oxycodone / 5 mg naloxone tablet taken every 12 hours. Your doctor will adjust the dose based on your pain.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with about half a glass of water, with or without food. Do not break, chew, or crush them. Take them at the same times every 12 hours (e.g., 8 AM and 8 PM).

Important

The maximum daily dose is 160 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride and 80 mg of naloxone hydrochloride. Do not exceed a total of 400 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride per day.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to any ingredients in Targiniq.
  • Do not break, chew, or crush the tablets; this can release too much medicine at once and be dangerous.
  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as they can increase side effects or cause serious breathing problems.
  • This medicine can cause slow and shallow breathing, especially with too high a dose, which can be life-threatening. Seek immediate medical help if this happens.
  • This medicine contains an opioid and can lead to dependence or addiction, even with regular use.

  • Tell your doctor if you have severe lung disease (like COPD or severe asthma), severe liver problems, or a condition called cor pulmonale.
  • Do not use if you have a bowel obstruction (paralytic ileus) not caused by other opioid treatment.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
