This medicine is used to treat severe pain when other pain relievers don't work, and to treat severe restless legs syndrome when other medicines can't be used, while also helping prevent constipation.

How to Use

Dosage

The typical starting dose for adults is one extended-release tablet (e.g., 10 mg/5 mg for pain or 5 mg/2.5 mg for restless legs) taken every 12 hours; your doctor will tell you the exact dose.

Method

Swallow the tablets whole with about half a glass of water. Do not break, chew, or crush them. You can take them with or without food, every 12 hours at the same times each day (e.g., 8 AM and 8 PM).

Important

For pain, the maximum daily dose is 160 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride and 80 mg of naloxone hydrochloride. For restless legs syndrome, the maximum is 60 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride and 30 mg of naloxone hydrochloride. Your doctor will set your exact maximum dose.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to oxycodone, naloxone, or any other ingredient.
  • Do not take if you have severe breathing problems (like slow, shallow breathing) or severe lung disease (like severe asthma or COPD).
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney problems, or if you have a blocked intestine (paralytic ileus).
  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as they can increase side effects.
  • This medicine contains an opioid (oxycodone) and can cause dependence or addiction. Follow your doctor's instructions carefully.

  • This medicine can make you sleepy or cause you to fall asleep suddenly. Do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these effects.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
