Tanonalla is a prolonged-release tablet that helps relieve severe pain and contains naloxone to prevent constipation, with effects lasting 12 hours.

How to Use

Dosage

For pain, the usual starting dose is one 10 mg/5 mg tablet every 12 hours. Your doctor will adjust your dose to find the lowest amount that works for your pain.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. You can take it with or without food. Do not break, chew, or crush the tablet.

Important

The maximum daily dose of Tanonalla is 160 mg oxycodone and 80 mg naloxone.

Possible Side Effects

  • Headache, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Hot flashes
  • Stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, dry mouth, indigestion, vomiting, nausea, gas
  • Itchy skin, skin reactions, sweating
  • Unusual weakness
  • Depression
  • Muscle twitching, tingling skin
  • Blurred vision
  • Changes in blood pressure (low or high)
  • Increased liver enzymes (seen in blood tests)
  • Chills, general pain
RARE
  • Allergic reactions
  • Mood and thinking changes (like restlessness, anxiety, confusion, depression, nervousness, hallucinations, nightmares, feeling very happy, aggression, or problems with thinking)
  • Decreased sex drive
  • Seizures
  • Difficulty concentrating, altered taste, speech problems, fainting, tremors
  • Chest tightness, palpitations, fast heart rate
  • Breathing problems (including shallow breathing, runny nose, cough, yawning, or breathing stops during sleep - sleep apnea)
  • Abdominal swelling, gallstone attacks, belching
  • Increased urge to urinate, difficulty urinating
  • Withdrawal symptoms (like agitation)
  • Swelling in hands, ankles, or feet
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Accidental injuries
  • Drug dependence
  • Tooth changes
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Muscle cramps, muscle pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to oxycodone, naloxone, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have severe breathing problems, like very slow or shallow breathing.
  • Do not take if you have severe lung disease (like COPD) or heart problems caused by lung disease.
  • Do not take if you have moderate to severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you have a bowel blockage that is not caused by other opioid medicines.

  • If you are taking this for restless legs syndrome, do not take it if you have ever misused opioids.
  • Tell your doctor if you have sleep apnea (breathing stops often during sleep, making you very sleepy during the day).
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. This medicine is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it can increase side effects like extreme sleepiness or slow breathing.
  • This medicine can make you feel sleepy or suddenly fall asleep. Do not drive or use machines if you feel this way.
  • If you have used other strong pain medicines (opioids), tell your doctor. Switching to Tanonalla might cause withdrawal symptoms like restlessness, sweating, and muscle pain.
  • If you take too much, you may have tiny pupils, very slow breathing, extreme sleepiness or passing out, weak muscles, slow heart rate, or low blood pressure. Get medical help right away.
  • Taking this medicine for a long time can lead to physical dependence. Do not stop taking it suddenly without talking to your doctor, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms like restlessness, sweating, and muscle pain.
  • Taking Tanonalla with other medicines that make you sleepy (like sedatives or tranquilizers) can be very dangerous. It can cause extreme sleepiness, severe breathing problems, and coma. Your doctor will carefully watch you and adjust doses if needed.
