How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you your exact dose, but a common starting dose for pain is one 10 mg/5 mg tablet every 12 hours.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not break, chew, or crush it. Take it every 12 hours, at the same times each day, with or without food.

Important

The highest daily dose your doctor might prescribe is 160 mg of oxycodone hydrochloride and 80 mg of naloxone hydrochloride.

  • Chest tightness, heart palpitations, fast heart rate
  • Breathing problems, runny nose, cough, swollen stomach
  • Gallstone attacks
  • Muscle cramps, muscle pain
  • Withdrawal symptoms (e.g., agitation)
  • Swelling in hands, ankles, or feet
  • Weight loss or gain
  • Accidental injuries
  • Drug dependence
  • Yawning
  • Dental changes
  • Erectile dysfunction

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Tanonalla if you are allergic to oxycodone hydrochloride, naloxone hydrochloride, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not take Tanonalla if you have severe breathing problems, like very slow or shallow breathing, severe asthma, or serious lung conditions (such as COPD or cor pulmonale).
  • Do not take Tanonalla if you have moderate to severe liver problems or a bowel blockage not caused by opioids. If you have kidney problems or mild liver problems, talk to your doctor.
  • This medicine contains an opioid and can lead to dependence or addiction. Do not take it if you have a history of alcohol, drug, or medicine misuse. Do not stop taking it suddenly.
  • Never break, chew, or crush the tablet, as this can release a dangerous amount of the medicine at once. Do not dissolve and inject it, as this can cause severe harm or death.

  • Do not drink alcohol or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as they can increase side effects and dangers.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, talk to your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking Tanonalla.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy and affect your ability to drive or use machines. Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy or fall asleep suddenly.
  • Seek immediate medical help if you experience severe upper stomach pain (possibly radiating to your back), nausea, vomiting, or fever, as these can be signs of serious problems like pancreatitis or gallstones.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Sedative. Reduce the dose already in mild renal impairment. Increases the risk of confusion and falling. Need for laxative is often necessary. Consider potential interactions. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 24.3.2025)
