How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine the right dose for you, usually 2 mg/kg as a slow injection.

Method

This medicine is given only directly into a vein.

Important

The maximum dose within 24 hours is 600 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Dizziness (usually temporary)
  • Vision problems, such as double vision or blurred vision
  • Arrhythmias
  • Shortness of breath
  • Weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Swelling
RARE
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Constipation, stomach pain, loss of appetite, diarrhea, heartburn, gas
  • Allergic skin reactions, such as rash and hair loss
  • Decreased red blood cell, white blood cell, or platelet counts
  • Hallucinations, depression, confusion, agitation, memory loss, insomnia
  • Sensory disturbances, clumsiness (ataxia), reduced sensation
  • Increased sweating, fainting, tremors, facial flushing, drowsiness, headache
  • Peripheral nerve dysfunction (peripheral neuropathy), convulsions, involuntary movements (dyskinesia)
  • Ringing in ears (tinnitus), vertigo, pneumonia
  • Elevated liver enzymes (with or without jaundice), severe hives
  • Increased DNA antibodies (with or without systemic inflammation), light sensitivity, corneal deposits
  • ECG changes, heart conduction disturbances, cardiac arrest, slow or fast heart rate, heart failure, chest pain, low blood pressure, heart attack, palpitations, ventricular fibrillation
  • Manifestation of previously hidden Brugada syndrome
  • Lung diseases (pulmonary fibrosis, interstitial lung disease)
  • Liver failure
  • Joint pain, muscle pain

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to flecainide or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have certain severe heart conditions, such as very low blood pressure, slow heart rate, Brugada syndrome, heart failure, certain conduction disorders, or severe heart valve disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a history of heart attack, heart surgery, kidney or liver problems, abnormal salt levels in your blood, low blood pressure, slow heart rate, a pacemaker, or heart valve disease.
  • Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women without doctor's guidance.
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery if you experience side effects like dizziness or vision problems.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Start the treatment only in specialized care. Risk of QT prolongation. Reduce the dose in severe renal impairment. A significant adverse effect is torsades de pointes ventricular tachycardia. Consider the numerous potential interactions. (updated 19.5.2025)
