How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 20-40 mg per day.

Method

Take the tablets by mouth with enough liquid, like a glass of water. A 40 mg daily dose can be taken once a day or divided into two doses.

Important

Do not exceed 40 mg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Fluid retention (swelling)
  • Feeling sick (nausea)
  • Skin rash
  • Hot flashes
  • Less frequent periods before menopause
  • Vaginal discharge
  • Vaginal bleeding
RARE
  • Anemia (low red blood cells)
  • Low white blood cells
  • High levels of fats in the blood (triglycerides)
  • Weakness
  • Headache
  • Vision problems, such as cataracts or changes to the retina/cornea
  • Increased risk of blood clots and vein inflammation
  • Complications from blood clots, such as lung blood clots or deep vein clots
  • Stroke or issues with blood flow to the brain
  • Leg cramps
  • Vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Constipation
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Changes in liver enzyme values or fatty liver
  • Dry skin
  • Hair loss
  • Allergic reactions
  • Bone pain (at the start of treatment)
  • Itching in the genital area
  • Irregular periods or absent periods
  • Changes in the womb lining (e.g., overgrowth, tumors, polyps, fibroids, or endometriosis)
  • Cancer of the womb lining
  • Low platelet count (cells that help blood clot)
  • High calcium in the blood (usually at the start of treatment for those with bone metastases)
  • Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
  • Dizziness
  • Liver cirrhosis (chronic liver disease)
  • Sweating
  • Muscle pain
  • Weight gain
  • Womb tumors (sarcoma) or ovarian cysts (in patients treated before menopause)
  • Tumor activation or pain at the tumor site
  • Low white blood cells (agranulocytosis or neutropenia)
  • Depression, confusion, or trouble sleeping
  • Optic nerve disease, worsening vision, or changes to the retina/optic nerve/cornea
  • Lung inflammation (interstitial pneumonia) or cough
  • Jaundice, liver failure, liver cell damage, or liver necrosis
  • Severe skin reactions (e.g., erythema multiforme, pemphigoides bullosus) or skin vasculitis (inflammation of skin blood vessels)
  • Thinning hair or swelling of the skin and mucous membranes (angioedema)
  • General feeling of being unwell
  • Increased need to urinate
  • Stiff leg muscles
  • Very low white blood cells (severe neutropenia) or low counts of all blood cells (pancytopenia)
  • Very high fat levels in the blood (severe hypertriglyceridemia)
  • Lupus (skin rash)
  • Porphyria (skin condition)
  • Skin rash after radiation therapy that looks like a severe sunburn
  • Worsening of symptoms of hereditary angioedema

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Tadex if you are allergic to tamoxifen or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use Tadex if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Avoid getting pregnant during treatment and for 9 months after stopping treatment.
  • Do not use Tadex if you are also taking anastrozole.
  • If you or a family member have had a blood clot, or if you get symptoms of a blood clot (e.g., swelling in your leg, chest pain, or shortness of breath), stop Tadex and contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you get symptoms of a stroke (e.g., sudden weakness or paralysis in arms/legs, speech/walking difficulties, trouble holding objects or thinking), contact a doctor immediately.

  • If you have a history of hereditary angioedema, or if you get symptoms like swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat, with difficulty swallowing or breathing, contact a doctor immediately.
  • If you develop severe skin reactions (e.g., red spots, blisters, peeling skin, or fever), stop Tadex and contact a doctor immediately.
  • Tadex can make your vision worse or make you feel weak. Be extra careful when driving or using machines.
