Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Headache
  • Fast heart rate
  • Slow heart rate
  • Nausea (feeling sick)
  • Vomiting (being sick)
RARE
  • Severe allergic reactions like sudden rash, trouble breathing, or fainting
  • Irregular or very fast/slow heartbeat
  • Very low blood pressure
  • Uterine contractions that are too strong or continuous, which can be dangerous
  • Too much fluid in the body (water intoxication) or low salt levels in the blood
  • Sudden fluid in the lungs, causing breathing problems
  • Problems with blood clotting or bleeding
  • Chest pain due to not enough blood to the heart
  • Hot flashes (sudden feeling of warmth)

Important Warnings

  • This medicine should only be given in a hospital under a doctor's care.
  • Do not use if you are allergic to oxytocin or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are already having very strong uterine contractions.
  • Do not use if your doctor has advised against a natural birth for reasons like the baby's position or size, placenta problems, or if you've had a C-section before.
  • Tell your doctor if you have severe heart problems or blood circulation issues.

  • Inform your doctor if you have severe pre-eclampsia (a condition during pregnancy with high blood pressure and swelling).
  • Do not use this medicine within 6 hours of receiving certain other labor-inducing medicines called prostaglandins.
  • Tell your doctor if you have a latex allergy, as this medicine may cause a severe allergic reaction.
