Symbicort Turbuhaler mite is an inhaler for asthma containing two medicines (budesonide and formoterol) that reduce inflammation and open airways to help you breathe easier.

How to Use

Dosage

Adults and adolescents (12 years and older): 1 or 2 inhalations twice a day. Children (6-11 years): 2 inhalations twice a day.

Method

Inhale deeply through the mouthpiece. Rinse your mouth with water and spit it out after your morning and/or evening dose.

Important

Do not use more than 12 inhalations in a 24-hour period.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Palpitations (feeling your heart beat), tremor, or shaking. These are usually mild and go away with continued use.
  • Thrush (a fungal infection in the mouth). This is less likely if you rinse your mouth with water after each use.
  • Mild throat irritation, cough, or hoarseness.
  • Headache.
RARE
  • Restlessness, nervousness, agitation.
  • Sleep problems.
  • Dizziness.
  • Nausea.
  • Fast heart rate.
  • Skin bruising.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Rash, itching.
  • Low blood potassium levels.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Depression.
  • Behavioral changes, especially in children.
  • Chest pain or tightness (angina pectoris).
  • Increased blood sugar (glucose).
  • Taste changes, such as an unpleasant taste in the mouth.
  • Changes in blood pressure.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to budesonide, formoterol, or any other ingredient in this medicine, including lactose (which contains small amounts of milk proteins).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have diabetes.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a lung infection.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have high blood pressure or heart problems (like irregular heartbeat, very fast pulse, narrowed arteries, or heart failure).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have thyroid or adrenal gland problems.

  • Talk to your doctor if you have low potassium levels in your blood.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have severe liver disease.
  • Contact your doctor if you experience blurred vision or other vision problems.
  • Stop using this medicine and seek immediate medical attention if you experience swelling of the face, tongue, or throat, hives with breathing difficulties, or a sudden feeling of fainting, as these could be signs of a severe allergic reaction.
  • If you suddenly start wheezing or have difficulty breathing right after using the inhaler, stop using it immediately and use your usual reliever inhaler. Contact your doctor right away, as your treatment may need to be changed.
