Symbicort Turbuhaler helps adults and teenagers (12-17 years old) with asthma, and adults (18 years and older) with COPD, by reducing lung swelling and relaxing airways.

How to Use

Dosage

Usually 1 or 2 inhalations twice daily.

Method

Inhale the medicine and rinse your mouth with water afterwards to prevent side effects.

Important

Do not take more than 12 inhalations in 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Heart palpitations (feeling your heart beat), tremors, or shaking.
  • Thrush (fungal infection in the mouth).
  • Mild throat irritation, coughing, hoarseness.
  • Headache.
  • Pneumonia (lung infection) in COPD patients (symptoms include fever, chills, increased mucus, changed mucus color, increased cough/breathing difficulties).
RARE
  • Restlessness, nervousness, agitation.
  • Sleep problems.
  • Dizziness.
  • Nausea.
  • Fast heart rate.
  • Skin bruising.
  • Muscle cramps.
  • Blurred vision.
  • Rash, itching.
  • Bronchospasm (sudden tightening of the airways causing wheezing).
  • Low potassium levels in blood.
  • Irregular heartbeat.
  • Depression.
  • Behavior changes, especially in children.
  • Chest pain or tightness (angina pectoris).
  • Increased blood sugar (glucose).
  • Taste changes, such as an unpleasant taste in the mouth.
  • Blood pressure changes.
  • Hormone-related effects like weakened bones, cataracts, glaucoma, or slowed growth in children (rare with inhaled steroids).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to budesonide, formoterol, or lactose.
  • If you experience sudden wheezing or shortness of breath after using this medicine, stop using it immediately and contact your doctor.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Always use this medicine every day, even if you feel well.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, lung infections, heart problems, high blood pressure, thyroid or adrenal gland issues, low blood potassium, or severe liver problems.
