How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is 2 puffs twice a day (morning and evening).

Method

Shake the inhaler, put the mouthpiece in your mouth, breathe in slowly and deeply while pressing the dose counter, hold your breath, then rinse your mouth with water and spit it out. Use every day as your doctor told you.

Important

Do not take more than 4 puffs per day (2 puffs twice a day).

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling your heart beat fast, shaking, or trembling.
  • Fungal infection in the mouth (thrush). Rinsing your mouth with water after each use can help prevent this.
  • Mild throat irritation, cough, or hoarse voice.
  • Headache.
  • Fever or chills (could be a sign of lung infection).
  • Increased mucus production with changed color (could be a sign of lung infection).
  • Increased cough or breathing difficulties (could be a sign of lung infection).
RARE
  • Rash or itching.
  • Sudden wheezing or shortness of breath (bronchospasm). If this happens, stop use and contact a doctor.
  • Low blood potassium levels.
  • Irregular heartbeat.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to budesonide, formoterol, or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • This medicine is not for sudden breathing problems or acute asthma attacks.
  • Tell your doctor if you have diabetes, a lung infection, high blood pressure, heart problems, thyroid or adrenal gland issues, low potassium, or severe liver disease.
  • Stop using immediately and contact a doctor if your face swells, you have trouble swallowing, difficulty breathing, or wheezing right after a dose. These could be signs of a serious allergic reaction or worsening breathing.
  • Do not stop using Symbicort without talking to your doctor, as your COPD symptoms may worsen.
