How to Use

Dosage

For stomach or kidney cancer: usually take 50 mg once a day for 4 weeks, then stop for 2 weeks. For pancreatic cancer: take 37.5 mg once a day without breaks.

Method

You can take the capsules with or without food.

Important

The highest daily dose is usually 50 mg for certain cancers or 37.5 mg for others.

  • Tumor breakdown leading to a hole in the gut
  • Gallbladder inflammation
  • Abnormal passage/fistula
  • Mouth, tooth, and/or jaw pain, swelling/sores, numbness, loose teeth (may be jaw bone damage)
  • Overactive thyroid
  • Wound healing problems after surgery
  • High muscle enzyme in blood
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., rash, swelling, breathing trouble)
  • Colon inflammation (colitis)
  • Severe skin/mucous reactions
  • Tumor lysis syndrome (metabolic issues during cancer treatment)
  • Abnormal muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis)
  • Abnormal brain changes (headache, confusion, seizures, vision loss)
  • Painful skin ulcers (pyoderma gangrenosum)
  • Thyroid inflammation
  • Damage to small blood vessels (TMA)
  • Enlarged/weakened blood vessel or tear (aneurysm)
  • Lack of energy, confusion, drowsiness, unconsciousness/coma (signs of brain toxicity)

Important Warnings

  • This medicine can raise your blood pressure. Your doctor will check it regularly.
  • You might bleed or bruise more easily. Tell your doctor if you have any bleeding.
  • This medicine can cause heart problems, such as tiredness, shortness of breath, or swollen feet.
  • Call your doctor right away if you have signs of a blood clot, such as chest pain or trouble speaking.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had enlarged or damaged blood vessels.

  • This medicine can affect your thyroid. Your doctor will monitor it with blood tests.
  • Tell your doctor if you have upper stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or fever.
  • Tell your doctor if your skin or the whites of your eyes turn yellow, or if your urine gets dark.
  • Your doctor will check how well your kidneys are working.
  • This medicine can slow wound healing. Tell your doctor if you have had or will have surgery.
  • See your dentist before starting treatment, and tell your doctor if you have mouth, tooth, or jaw pain.
  • Contact your doctor right away if you get a severe rash, skin sores, or a fast-spreading skin infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had seizures.
  • If you have diabetes, your blood sugar needs to be closely watched, and your doctor may adjust your diabetes medicine.
  • Do not drink grapefruit juice while taking this medicine.
  • Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Talk to your doctor about birth control.
  • Be careful when driving or using machines if you feel dizzy or tired.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sunitinib or any other ingredients.
