How to Use

Dosage

For GIST and kidney cancer: 50 mg once daily for 28 days, followed by a 14-day break. For pancreatic NET: 37.5 mg once daily without a break.

Method

Take the capsules whole with water, with or without food, exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you.

Important

The maximum daily dose is 50 mg (for GIST/kidney cancer) or 37.5 mg (for pancreatic NET), as prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Decreased number of platelets, red blood cells, and/or white blood cells.
  • Shortness of breath, cough.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Severe tiredness, weakness, difficulty falling asleep.
  • Swelling (fluid retention under the skin, around eyes, in the lungs).
  • Mouth and gum problems (pain, sores, inflammation), altered taste, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, loss of appetite, difficulty swallowing, gas, hemorrhoids.
  • Underactive thyroid.
  • Dizziness, headache.
  • Nosebleeds.
  • Back, joint, and limb pain, muscle pain and cramps.
  • Skin and hair color changes, rash (on palms/soles), dry skin, itching, flaking, blisters, nail problems, acne-like reactions, hair loss.
  • Fever, chills.
  • Blood clots in vessels, reduced blood flow to heart muscle, chest pain, decreased blood pumped by the heart.
  • Infections, severe infections (sepsis).
  • Low blood sugar.
  • Protein in urine (may cause swelling).
  • Flu-like symptoms.
  • Abnormal lab results (blood, pancreatic, and liver enzymes), high uric acid in blood.
  • Weight loss.
  • Numbness or altered sensation (touch sensitivity, in arms and legs).
  • Heartburn, dehydration, hot flashes.
  • Abnormally colored urine.
  • Depression.
  • Dry nose, blocked nose, watery eyes.
RARE
  • Life-threatening soft tissue infection (in anal and genital areas).
  • Stroke.
  • Heart attack or abnormal heart rhythm.
  • Fluid around the heart.
  • Liver failure, liver inflammation (hepatitis).
  • Pancreas inflammation and resulting stomach pain.
  • Bowel perforation due to tumor breakdown, tumor lysis syndrome (TLS).
  • Gallbladder inflammation (swelling, redness, gallstones).
  • Abnormal connection within the body or to the skin (fistula).
  • Jaw bone damage (pain in mouth, swelling, numbness, loose teeth).
  • Overactive thyroid, thyroid inflammation.
  • Wound healing problems after surgery.
  • Increased muscle enzyme levels in blood.
  • Severe allergic reaction (rash, swelling, breathing difficulties).
  • Large intestine inflammation (colitis).
  • Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), painful skin sores (pyoderma gangrenosum).
  • Muscle breakdown that can harm kidneys (rhabdomyolysis).
  • Abnormal brain changes (headache, confusion, seizures, vision loss).
  • Small blood vessel damage (thrombotic microangiopathy, TMA).

Important Warnings

  • Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to sunitinib or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • This medicine can raise your blood pressure; your doctor will check it regularly.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had bleeding, bruising, or blood count problems.
  • Inform your doctor if you have heart problems, such as severe tiredness, shortness of breath, or swelling.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you have symptoms of a blood clot, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, or weakness on one side of your body.

  • Inform your doctor if you have or have had blood vessel bulges (aneurysms) or damage to small blood vessels (TMA).
  • Tell your doctor if you have thyroid, pancreas, gallbladder, liver, or kidney problems.
  • Inform your doctor or dentist if you are having surgery or dental work, as the medicine can affect healing.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you develop a severe rash, painful skin sores, or signs of a skin infection.
  • Tell your doctor if you have had seizures or diabetes, as blood sugar levels may need monitoring.
  • Use effective birth control during treatment. Do not breastfeed while taking this medicine.
  • Be careful when driving or operating machinery if you feel dizzy or tired.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice during treatment.
