How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your type of cancer; typical doses are usually 50 mg daily for 28 days followed by a 14-day break, or 37.5 mg daily without a break.

Method

You can take Sunitinib Viatris capsules with or without food.

Your doctor will decide your appropriate maximum daily dose based on your cancer type and treatment cycle. Do not exceed the dose prescribed by your doctor.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Lower counts of platelets and blood cells.
  • Extreme tiredness and weakness.
  • Mouth pain or sores, taste changes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, loss of appetite.
  • Rash, skin and hair color changes, dry skin, yellow skin, swelling.
  • Headache, joint or muscle pain, back pain, limb pain.
  • Shortness of breath, cough, nosebleeds.
  • High blood pressure, underactive thyroid, dizziness, fever, trouble sleeping, blood clots, infections, low blood sugar, chills, heartburn.
RARE
  • Severe skin or soft tissue infections.
  • Heart attack, stroke, changes in heart rhythm or electrical activity, fluid around the heart, kidney or liver failure, muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), brain changes (posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome).
  • Pancreatitis, gallbladder inflammation, bowel perforation due to tumor breakdown, abnormal connections in the body (fistulas).
  • Jaw bone damage (pain, swelling, numbness in the jaw or loose teeth).
  • Overactive thyroid, severe allergic reactions (including rash, itching, swelling, breathing difficulties).
  • Wound healing problems after surgery, tumor lysis syndrome (TLS), painful skin sores (pyoderma gangrenosum), thyroid inflammation, small blood vessel damage (thrombotic microangiopathy).
  • Enlargement or rupture of blood vessel walls (aneurysm), confusion, drowsiness, unconsciousness due to ammonia toxicity.

Important Warnings

  • High blood pressure. This medicine can raise your blood pressure, and your doctor will check it regularly.
  • Heart problems. Tell your doctor if you feel very tired, short of breath, or have swollen feet.
  • Bleeding problems. This medicine can increase your risk of bleeding or change blood cell counts. Tell your doctor about any unusual bleeding or bruising.
  • Thyroid problems. This medicine can affect your thyroid. Tell your doctor if you feel more tired, colder, or if your voice changes.
  • Liver and kidney problems. Your doctor will monitor your liver and kidney function with blood tests. Report symptoms like yellow skin or dark urine.

  • Skin problems. Severe skin reactions, including painful sores or rapidly spreading infections, can occur. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop severe rashes or skin damage.
  • Avoid grapefruit juice. Grapefruit juice can affect how this medicine works.
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding. Do not use this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Discuss contraception with your doctor.
  • Aneurysms and blood clots. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience chest pain, shortness of breath, speech difficulties, or sudden weakness.
