How to Use

Dosage

For gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) or kidney cancer (MRCC): 50 mg once daily for 28 days, followed by a 14-day break. For pancreatic cancer (pNET): 37.5 mg once daily without a break. Your doctor will determine your specific dose.

Method

You can take the medicine with or without food.

Important

The highest typical daily dose for this medicine is 50 mg.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Low blood cell counts (platelets, red blood cells, white blood cells)
  • Shortness of breath
  • High blood pressure
  • Extreme tiredness, weakness
  • Swelling due to fluid buildup under the skin and around the eyes
  • Mouth sores, mouth inflammation, dry mouth, changes in taste
  • Stomach problems: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, swollen stomach
  • Decreased appetite
  • Underactive thyroid (decreased thyroid hormone production)
  • Dizziness, headache
  • Nosebleeds
  • Back pain, joint pain, limb pain
  • Yellowish/discolored skin, darkened skin, hair color changes, rash (on palms and soles), dry skin
  • Cough
  • Fever
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Blood clots in blood vessels
  • Chest pain
  • Fluid buildup in the body, including around the lungs
  • Infections

  • Protein in urine (can sometimes lead to swelling)

  • Fluid around the heart (pericardial effusion)
  • Liver failure
  • Pancreas inflammation (abdominal pain)
  • Hole in the intestine due to tumor breakdown
  • Gallbladder inflammation (swelling and redness), possibly with gallstones
  • Abnormal connection from one body cavity to another or to the skin (fistula)
  • Jawbone damage (mouth, tooth, or jaw pain, swelling, numbness)
  • Overactive thyroid (overproduction of thyroid hormones)
  • Wound healing problems after surgery
  • Increased muscle enzymes (creatine phosphokinase) in blood
  • Severe allergic reaction (e.g., hay fever, rash, itching, hives, swelling of body parts, difficulty breathing)
  • Large intestine inflammation (colitis, ischemic colitis)
  • Severe skin reactions (Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, erythema multiforme)
  • Tumor lysis syndrome (nausea, shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, muscle cramps, seizures, kidney failure)
  • Muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), which can lead to kidney problems
  • Abnormal brain changes (headache, confusion, seizures, vision loss)
  • Painful skin sores (pyoderma gangrenosum)
  • Liver inflammation (hepatitis)
  • Thyroid inflammation
  • Damage to small blood vessels (thrombotic microangiopathy)
  • Brain dysfunction due to ammonia buildup (fatigue, confusion, coma)

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to sunitinib or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • Tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, as it may increase during treatment.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had bleeding problems, bruising, or if you take blood thinners.
  • Tell your doctor if you have heart problems, such as extreme tiredness, shortness of breath, swollen feet, or an irregular heartbeat.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you experience signs of blood clots, such as chest pain, shortness of breath, one-sided weakness, or speech problems.

  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had enlarged or weakened blood vessels (aneurysms) or tears in blood vessel walls.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had damage to small blood vessels (thrombotic microangiopathy), with symptoms like fever, fatigue, bruising, or confusion.
  • Tell your doctor if you have thyroid problems, such as feeling tired, cold, or having a deeper voice.
  • Tell your doctor if you have problems with your pancreas, gallbladder, liver, or kidneys.
  • Tell your doctor if you are having surgery or have recently had surgery, as this medicine can affect wound healing.
  • Tell your doctor or dentist right away if you have mouth, tooth, or jaw pain, swelling, or sores in your mouth, as these could be signs of jawbone damage.
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you have painful skin sores (pyoderma gangrenosum), a fast-spreading skin infection (necrotizing fasciitis), or severe skin rashes (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome).
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had seizures.
  • If you have diabetes, your blood sugar levels should be checked regularly.
  • Avoid drinking grapefruit juice while taking Sunitinib ratiopharm.
  • Use reliable contraception if you can become pregnant. Do not breastfeed during treatment.
  • This medicine may affect your ability to drive or use machines. Be careful if you feel dizzy or unusually tired.
