How to Use

Dosage

One 50 mg tablet. For some, 100 mg may be needed.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water as soon as migraine headache begins.

Important

Maximum 300 mg (six 50 mg tablets or three 100 mg tablets) in 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Tingling sensation
  • Temporary increase in blood pressure
  • Flushing
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Tight feeling (in chest or neck)
  • Muscle pain
  • Pain
  • Feeling of heat or cold, pressure or tightness (anywhere in body)
  • Feeling of weakness
  • Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
RARE
  • Allergic skin reactions (rash, hives)
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis - swelling of face/lips, wheezing)
  • Involuntary eye movements (nystagmus)
  • Dark spots in vision (scotoma)
  • Tremors and muscle spasms (dystonia)
  • Seizures
  • Vision problems (flickering, double vision, blurred vision, vision loss)
  • Heart problems (fast/slow/irregular heartbeat, heart attack)
  • Raynaud's syndrome (pale/bluish skin, pain in fingers/toes/ears/nose/jaw in cold/stress)
  • Inflammation of large intestine (lower abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea)
  • Diarrhea
  • Joint pain
  • Anxiety
  • Neck stiffness
  • Excessive sweating
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Serotonin syndrome (restlessness, hallucinations, rapid heart rate, etc.)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sumatriptan or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have had a heart attack or any heart disease.
  • Do not take if you have had a stroke or a mini-stroke (TIA).
  • Do not take if you have severe circulation problems in your legs.
  • Do not take if you have very high blood pressure, or if your blood pressure is high despite medication.

  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take if you are using or have recently used ergotamine, triptans, or MAOIs (antidepressants).
