How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults is one 50 mg tablet. Some people may need a 100 mg tablet. Always follow your doctor's instructions.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water. Take it as soon as you feel a migraine attack starting, but you can take it at any time during the attack.

Important

Do not take more than 300 mg (e.g., six 50 mg tablets or three 100 mg tablets) in a 24-hour period. If symptoms return, you can take a second tablet after at least 2 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain, feeling of heaviness, pressure, or tightness in the chest, throat, or other body parts. Unusual sensations like numbness, tingling, or feelings of warmth or cold.
  • Dizziness, drowsiness
  • Temporary increase in blood pressure (soon after taking the medicine), flushing
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Nausea, vomiting
  • Muscle pain
  • Feeling of weakness, tiredness
RARE
  • Allergic skin reactions, such as red patches or hives.
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) with swelling of face/lips/eyelids, sudden wheezing, fast heartbeat, chest tightness, or fainting. Seek immediate medical help.
  • Breast pain
  • Changes in how the liver works (seen in blood tests).
  • Anxiety
  • Seizures, uncontrolled movements, shaking, involuntary eye movements
  • Vision problems (like flashes, blurred vision, or loss of sight)
  • Heart problems (like fast or slow heartbeat, changes in heart rhythm, chest pain, or heart attack)
  • Low blood pressure, Raynaud's syndrome (fingers and toes become white and numb)
  • Colon inflammation (pain in lower left stomach, bloody diarrhea), diarrhea, difficulty swallowing
  • Excessive sweating
  • Stiff neck, joint pain
  • Pain or worse pain in an injured or inflamed area (e.g., due to rheumatism or colon inflammation)

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sumatriptan or any other ingredients listed in the leaflet.
  • Do not take if you have heart problems, poor circulation in your legs, have had a stroke or mini-stroke, or have uncontrolled high blood pressure.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take with other migraine medicines that contain ergotamine, methysergide, or other triptans (like naratriptan or zolmitriptan).
  • Do not take if you are taking antidepressants called MAO inhibitors, or have taken them in the last two weeks.

  • This medicine is not for children or teenagers under 18 years old.
  • If you get severe chest pain or tightness after taking this medicine, get medical help right away. It could be serious.
  • If you take certain antidepressants (SSRI/SNRI) and have symptoms like restlessness, confusion, sweating, or muscle twitching, tell your doctor right away. This could be 'serotonin syndrome'.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to get pregnant, or breastfeeding. Do not breastfeed for 12 hours after taking this medicine.
  • This medicine or migraine itself can make you sleepy. Do not drive or use machines if you feel drowsy.
