How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose for adults aged 18-65 is one 6 mg injection.

Method

The medicine is given as an injection under the skin, usually in the upper arm or thigh.

Important

Do not take more than two injections in a 24-hour period.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Pain at the injection site.
  • Stinging or burning, redness, swelling, bruising, and bleeding at the injection site.
  • Pain, pressure, or tightness in the chest, throat, or other body parts; unusual feelings like numbness, tingling, warmth, or cold.
  • Feeling sick or throwing up (can also be from migraine itself).
  • Feeling tired or sleepy.
  • Dizziness, feeling weak, or hot flashes.
  • Temporary increase in blood pressure.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Muscle pain.
RARE
  • Breast pain.
  • Changes in how your liver works (seen in blood tests).
  • Seizures, shaking, muscle cramps, or a stiff neck.
  • Vision problems like flickering, blurry vision, double vision, or loss of sight (can be temporary or permanent, and might be due to the migraine itself).
  • Heart problems, such as fast, slow, or uneven heartbeat, chest pain, or heart attack.
  • Raynaud's phenomenon (pale or blue skin, and/or pain in fingers, toes, ears, nose, or jaw when exposed to cold or stress).
  • Weakness (which may be linked to low blood pressure).
  • Pain in the lower left part of your belly and bloody diarrhea.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Joint pain.
  • Anxiety.
  • Sweating too much.
  • Pain or worsening pain at the site of a recent injury or inflammation (e.g., joint rheumatism or inflammatory bowel disease).
  • Difficulty swallowing.

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to sumatriptan or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not use if you have heart problems, chest pain, or have had a heart attack.
  • Do not use if you have circulation problems in your arms or legs.
  • Do not use if you have had a stroke or a mini-stroke (TIA).
  • Do not use if you have high blood pressure that is not controlled.

  • Do not use if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not use if you are taking other migraine medicines like ergotamine or other triptans.
  • Do not use if you are taking or have taken certain antidepressant medicines (MAO inhibitors) in the last two weeks.
  • Using this medicine too often can make your headaches worse. Talk to your doctor if this happens.
  • If you experience chest pain or tightness that doesn't go away or gets worse, seek immediate medical help.
  • This medicine can make you sleepy. Do not drive or operate machinery if you feel drowsy.
  • The needle shield may contain latex. Tell your doctor if you are allergic to latex.
