How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 50 mg tablet for a migraine attack. Your doctor may prescribe 100 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water as soon as a migraine starts. Do not chew or crush it.

Important

Do not take more than 300 mg in 24 hours.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, unusual feelings (like tingling).
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Muscle pain.
  • Temporary increase in blood pressure, flushing (redness of face/neck).
  • Feeling weak or tired.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Pain, heat, cold, tightness, or pressure anywhere in the body, including chest and neck. These usually go away quickly.
RARE
  • Breast pain.
  • Seizures, involuntary movements, tremor, eye twitching.
  • Vision problems (flashes, reduced vision, vision loss).
  • Heart problems (fast/slow/changed heartbeat, chest pain, heart attack).
  • Low blood pressure.
  • Raynaud's syndrome (fingers/toes turn white/numb).
  • Colitis (abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea).
  • Stiff neck.
  • Mild liver problems.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Anxiety.
  • Excessive sweating.
  • Joint pain.
  • Difficulty swallowing.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Sumatriptan Accord if you are allergic to sumatriptan or any other ingredients.
  • Do not take if you have heart disease, have had a heart attack, stroke, or severe circulation problems in your legs.
  • Do not take if your high blood pressure is not controlled by medicine, or if you have severe liver problems.
  • Do not take if you are using certain other migraine medicines (like ergotamine) or antidepressants (MAOIs, SSRIs, SNRIs). Talk to your doctor.
  • Using this medicine too often can make your headaches worse.
