How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one 50 mg tablet for a migraine attack, but your doctor may prescribe 100 mg.

Method

Swallow the tablet whole with water as soon as a migraine starts; do not chew or crush it.

Important

Do not take more than 300 mg in a 24-hour period.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Drowsiness, dizziness, tingling, numbness, weakness.
  • Muscle pain, neck stiffness.
  • Temporary increase in blood pressure, facial flushing, feeling of warmth.
  • Nausea or vomiting.
  • Pain, pressure, or tightness in the chest or anywhere else in the body.
  • Difficulty breathing.
RARE
  • Chest pain.
  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing, fainting).
  • Seizures (convulsions), involuntary movements, tremors.
  • Vision problems, such as flashes, blurred vision, or loss of sight.
  • Heart problems (fast or slow heartbeat, heart attack).
  • Low blood pressure, cold or numb fingers and toes (Raynaud's syndrome).
  • Bowel inflammation (abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea).
  • Mild liver problems.
  • Diarrhea, anxiety, excessive sweating, joint pain, difficulty swallowing.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to sumatriptan or any other ingredients in the medicine, or if you have had a severe allergic reaction.
  • Do not take if you have heart disease, chest pain, high blood pressure, or if you have had a heart attack or stroke.
  • Talk to your doctor if you are taking other migraine medicines (e.g., ergotamine) or antidepressants (SSRI/SNRI or MAO inhibitors).
  • Taking Sumatriptan Accord too often can make your headaches worse.
  • If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy, consult your doctor. Avoid breastfeeding for 12 hours after a dose.
