How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your weight and how much muscle relaxant is still affecting you. Typical dose is 2-4 mg per kg of body weight for adults and children 2-17 years old.

Method

Your anesthesiologist will give you this medicine as a single injection into your vein.

Important

The maximum dose is 16 mg per kg of body weight for adults if a very fast reversal is needed.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough
  • Breathing difficulties, such as coughing or movements as if waking up or gasping for breath.
  • Light anesthesia, meaning you might start to wake up and need more anesthetic, which could cause movement or coughing at the end of surgery.
  • Complications during your procedure, such as changes in heart rate, coughing, or movement.
  • Drop in blood pressure due to the surgery.
RARE
  • Shortness of breath due to muscle spasms in the airways (bronchospasm), especially in patients with a history of lung problems.
  • Allergic reactions, like rash, skin redness, swelling of the tongue or throat, shortness of breath, or changes in blood pressure or heart rate, which can sometimes lead to a severe drop in blood pressure. Severe allergic reactions can be life-threatening.
  • Return of muscle relaxation after surgery.
  • Severe slowing of the heart rate and pulse, which can even lead to cardiac arrest, may occur when this medicine is given.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sugammadex or any of its ingredients.
  • Tell your doctor if you have kidney disease, as this medicine is removed from your body through your kidneys.
  • Tell your doctor if you have or have had liver disease.
  • Tell your doctor if you have swelling (fluid retention) in your body.
  • Tell your doctor if you have conditions that increase bleeding risk or if you take blood thinners.

  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years old.
  • This medicine can make hormonal birth control (like pills, rings, implants, or coils) less effective.
  • This medicine may affect blood tests for a hormone called progesterone.
  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, think you might be pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
