Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough
  • Breathing difficulties, which may include coughing or movements as if you were waking up or gasping for air.
  • Light anesthesia, meaning you may start to wake up from deep sleep and need more anesthetic, which could lead to moving or coughing at the end of surgery.
  • Complications during the procedure, such as changes in heart rate, coughing, or movement.
  • A drop in blood pressure caused by the surgical procedure.
RARE
  • Shortness of breath caused by muscle spasms in the airways (bronchospasm), especially in patients with a history of lung disease.
  • Allergic reactions (such as rash, skin redness, swelling of the tongue and/or throat, shortness of breath, changes in blood pressure or heart rate, which can sometimes lead to a severe and life-threatening drop in blood pressure).
  • Return of muscle relaxation after surgery.
  • Severe slowing of heart rate and a decrease in heart rate, which can even lead to cardiac arrest.
