How to Use

Dosage

Your anesthetist will decide the dose based on your weight and how much muscle relaxant is still affecting you. The usual dose is 2-4 mg per kg of body weight.

Method

This medicine is given as a single injection into a vein by your anesthetist.

Important

The maximum dose that can be used is 16 mg per kg of body weight for a very fast recovery.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Cough
  • Trouble with breathing, such as coughing or moving like you are waking up or gasping for air.
  • Feeling like you are waking up from deep sleep (light anesthesia), which might make you need more anesthetic, or cause you to move or cough at the end of surgery.
  • Problems during the surgery, such as changes in heart rate, coughing, or moving.
  • A drop in blood pressure caused by the surgery.
RARE
  • Shortness of breath from muscle spasms in the airways (bronchospasm), especially in patients with a history of lung problems.
  • Allergic reactions (drug hypersensitivity) such as rash, red skin, swelling of the tongue and/or throat, shortness of breath, changes in blood pressure or heart rate, which can sometimes lead to a severe drop in blood pressure. Severe allergic reactions can be life-threatening.
  • The return of muscle relaxation after surgery.
  • Very slow heart rate and slowing of the heartbeat, which could even lead to cardiac arrest.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to sugammadex or any other ingredients. Tell your anesthetist if you have allergies.
  • Tell your anesthetist if you have or have had kidney disease, as this medicine leaves your body through the kidneys.
  • Tell your anesthetist if you have or have had liver disease.
  • Tell your anesthetist if you have fluid retention (swelling).
  • Tell your anesthetist if you have conditions that increase your risk of bleeding or if you take blood thinners.

  • This medicine is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.
  • This medicine may make hormonal contraceptives (like birth control pills, rings, implants, or coils) less effective. Follow your contraceptive's instructions for missed doses or use a barrier method for 7 days.
