How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will decide your dose based on your age, weight, and health condition.

Method

This medicine is given as an injection into a vein (intravenously) or into the spine (epidurally) in a hospital, always by a doctor or nurse.

Important

Your doctor will determine the maximum daily dose you can receive.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Feeling tired or sleepy
  • Itching
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Slow or weak breathing, or temporary stopping of breathing
  • Changes in heart rate (slow, fast, or irregular) or blood pressure (low or high)
  • Muscle stiffness, cramps, or sudden muscle jerks
  • Headache or dizziness
RARE
  • Heart or breathing stop, abnormal heart rhythm
  • Bluish skin or lips (due to lack of oxygen), shock
  • Coma, nervousness, apathy
  • Fluid in the lungs, sneezing, runny nose, stuffy nose, cough, hoarseness
  • Paleness, chills, fever, changes in body temperature, allergic rash, severe sweating, skin redness or discoloration
  • Vision problems, small pupils, difficulty urinating or urinary incontinence
  • Pain, including back pain and pain or reactions at the injection site

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to sufentanil, other opioids, or any other ingredient in this medicine.
  • This medicine should not be given into a vein (intravenously) during labor or before the umbilical cord is cut during a C-section, as it may cause breathing problems in the newborn.
  • Do not use if you have severe bleeding, shock, blood poisoning, infection at the injection site, or problems with blood clotting, especially if the medicine is given into the spine (epidurally).
  • Tell your doctor if you have lung disease, reduced breathing function, or slow bowel movements.
  • Repeated use of this medicine can lead to tolerance, dependence, and misuse, which could cause a life-threatening overdose. If you or your family have a history of drug or alcohol misuse, tell your doctor.

  • Do not drive or use machines after receiving this medicine, as it can affect your alertness. Your doctor will tell you when it's safe to resume these activities.
