How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will determine your exact dose. For adults, typical maintenance doses range from 100 to 200 micrograms daily. For children, it's 100 to 150 micrograms per square meter of body surface area.

Method

Take your daily dose in the morning on an empty stomach, at least 30 minutes before breakfast, with a small amount of water. For infants, crush the tablet and mix with a small amount of water just before giving it.

Important

The maximum daily dose is determined by your doctor and can range up to 200 micrograms for most conditions, or up to 300 micrograms for specific cases like thyroid cancer.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Irregular or fast heartbeat.
  • Chest pain.
  • Headache.
  • Muscle weakness or cramps.
  • Flushing (feeling hot and red in the face).
  • Fever.
  • Vomiting.
  • Menstrual disorders (changes in periods).
  • Pseudotumor cerebri (increased pressure inside the skull).
  • Tremor (shaking).
  • Restlessness.
  • Sleep disturbances (trouble sleeping).
  • Sweating.
  • Weight loss.
  • Diarrhea.
RARE
  • Allergic reactions (rash, hives, swelling of the face or throat).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take Striroxin if you are allergic to levothyroxine or any other ingredient in the medicine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have untreated problems with your adrenal or pituitary glands, an overactive thyroid (thyrotoxicosis), or an acute heart problem like a heart attack or severe heart inflammation.
  • If you are pregnant and taking medicines to stop your thyroid from making too much hormone, do not use Striroxin with them.
  • Talk to your doctor before taking Striroxin if you have heart disease (like chest pain, heart failure, fast heartbeat, high blood pressure) or problems with your adrenal or pituitary glands. These conditions need to be treated before you start Striroxin.
  • Do not use thyroid hormones to lose weight if your thyroid levels are normal. Taking high doses, especially with certain weight-loss drugs, can cause serious and life-threatening side effects.

  • Tell your doctor or lab staff if you are taking biotin (Vitamin H/B7/B8), as it can affect thyroid test results.
  • If you eat soy products, tell your doctor, especially if you change the amount you eat, as your Striroxin dose might need adjustment.
