Stesolid helps relieve anxiety, tension, and restlessness, and also prevents and treats seizures, such as fever convulsions in children.

How to Use

Dosage

For adults, usually 10 mg; for elderly or frail patients, 5 mg. For children 1-3 years old, 5 mg; over 3 years old, 10 mg (or 0.5-1 mg/kg for fever convulsions).

Method

The medicine is administered into the rectum as a rectal solution.

Important

A single dose should not exceed 20 mg, and the maximum daily dose is 20 mg.

  • Paradoxical reactions (agitation, restlessness, aggression, hallucinations, nightmares)

  • Enlarged breast glands in men
  • Impotence, changes in sexual desire
  • Severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis), with symptoms like sudden wheezing, swelling of lips, tongue, throat or body, rash, fainting, or difficulty swallowing.
  • Low white blood cell count
  • Blurred vision, double vision, involuntary eye movements
  • Pauses in breathing

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to diazepam or other similar medicines (benzodiazepines).
  • Do not use if you have myasthenia gravis (a muscle weakness disease), severe liver or lung disease, or sleep apnea (breathing stops during sleep).
  • Tell your doctor if you have had problems with alcohol or drug abuse, or if you are elderly or frail, as you may be more sensitive to the medicine.
  • Discuss with your doctor if you have depression or thoughts of harming yourself.
  • Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly without talking to your doctor, as it can cause withdrawal symptoms or seizures.

  • Avoid alcohol and grapefruit juice while using this medicine.
  • Do not use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can make you drowsy; do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Using this medicine with strong pain relievers (opioids) can be very dangerous and cause severe drowsiness or breathing problems. Tell your doctor about all medicines you take.
  • If you experience restlessness, aggression, nightmares, or hallucinations, contact your doctor immediately, as the medicine might need to be stopped.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Sedative. A long-acting. Increases the risk of drug addiction, cognitive disorder and traffic accidents. Increases risk of falls. Paradoxically, may increase anxiety, restlessness and aggression. Avoid grapefruit. (updated 15.1.2024)
