How to Use

Dosage

Your doctor will tell you how much to take; typical daily doses for adults are 25-100 mg, but it can be adjusted based on your condition.

Method

Take this medicine with food and a glass of water, either all at once or split into two doses, preferably at the same time each day.

Important

For severe swelling, the maximum daily dose can be up to 400 mg for a short period, as prescribed by your doctor.

Important Warnings

  • Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to spironolactone or any other ingredient in it.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have severe kidney problems or if your kidneys have stopped making urine.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have very high levels of potassium or very low levels of sodium in your blood.
  • Do not take this medicine if you have a sudden problem with your adrenal glands (Addison's crisis) or a rare blood disorder called porphyria.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking other medicines, potassium supplements, or eating foods high in potassium, as this can lead to dangerous potassium levels in your blood. Symptoms include muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat, diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, and headache.

  • Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. This medicine is generally not recommended during breastfeeding.
  • This medicine can make you feel dizzy or tired, especially when you start taking it or when your dose changes. Do not drive or operate machines until you know how it affects you.

Category C

Suitable for older adults, with specific precautions. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Do not use in severe renal impairment. Consider risk of hyperkalaemia.. (updated 19.5.2025)
