How to Use

Dosage

The dose depends on your condition; for adults, it's usually 47.5–190 mg once daily, and for children (6-18 years), the dose is based on weight, typically 0.48-1.9 mg/kg once daily.

Method

Take the tablet once daily, whole with liquid; you can take it with or without food, but do not chew or crush it.

Important

The maximum daily dose for adults is generally 190 mg; for children, it is 1.9 mg/kg per day.

Possible Side Effects

COMMON
  • Tiredness
  • Dizziness or headache
  • Slow heart rate or palpitations
  • Dizziness when changing position (even fainting)
  • Cold hands and feet
  • Nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, or constipation
  • Shortness of breath during exercise
RARE
  • Burning, tingling, or numbness in limbs
  • Muscle cramps or joint pain
  • Worsening heart failure (increased shortness of breath or swelling in ankles)
  • Severe drop in blood pressure (cardiogenic shock) during or after heart attack
  • Chest pain
  • Depression, poor concentration, drowsiness, insomnia, or nightmares
  • Rash or narrowed airways and shortness of breath
  • Vomiting, increased sweating, or weight gain
  • Nervousness, anxiety, or hair loss
  • Vision problems, dry or irritated eyes, dry mouth, or conjunctivitis (pink eye)
  • Impotence and other sexual problems

Important Warnings

  • Do not use if you are allergic to metoprolol or similar medicines, or if you have certain severe heart rhythm problems (like AV block II or III, sick sinus syndrome), untreated heart failure, or a very slow pulse.
  • Tell your doctor immediately if your heart rate slows down too much or if you have a tendency for low blood sugar.
  • This medicine can make your eyes dry if you wear contact lenses.
  • Always tell your doctor that you are taking Spesicor DOS before any surgery where you will be put to sleep.
  • If you become pregnant while taking this medicine, contact your doctor as soon as possible.
