How to Use

Dosage

The usual dose is one Spasmo-lyt Depot capsule once a day, unless your doctor tells you otherwise.

Method

Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water. Take it at least one hour before a meal on an empty stomach.

Important

Do not take more than one Spasmo-lyt Depot capsule in a day.

  • Difficulty emptying the bladder, urinary retention

  • Urinary tract infection
  • Headache
  • Swelling of the face, tongue, and throat, which can cause severe breathing difficulties (seek immediate medical help).
  • Sudden allergic reaction with shortness of breath, rash, wheezing, and drop in blood pressure (seek immediate medical help).

Important Warnings

  • Do not take if you are allergic to trospium chloride or any other ingredients in this medicine.
  • Do not take if you have urinary retention (difficulty emptying your bladder completely).
  • Do not take if you have a certain eye disease called narrow-angle glaucoma.
  • Do not take if you have an abnormally fast heartbeat.
  • Do not take if you have myasthenia gravis (a condition causing muscle weakness).

  • Do not take if you have a severe digestive tract disease, such as toxic megacolon.
  • Do not take if you have severe liver disease.
  • Do not take if you have severe kidney disease.
  • Do not give this medicine to children under 18 years of age.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have any narrowing of the stomach or bowels.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a weak urine flow (e.g., due to an enlarged prostate).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have nerve damage (neuropathy).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have a hiatal hernia with heartburn (reflux esophagitis).
  • Talk to your doctor if you have an overactive thyroid.
  • Talk to your doctor if you have heart disease (e.g., coronary artery disease or heart failure).
  • This medicine can affect your eyesight. Do not drive or use machines if your vision is blurry.
  • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including over-the-counter ones.

Use in Elderly Patients

Category D

Avoid use in older adults. Anticholinergic. Reduce the dose in moderately severe renal impairment. Significant adverse effects include tachycardia, confusion and cognitive impairment. Increases risk of falls. Reduces the effectiveness of drugs for Alzheimer’s disease. (updated 25.11.2024)
